February Legislative Events

February will be an important legislative month for the State of Kansas, as well as the NEJC Chamber of Commerce.

I feel honored to have Governor Sam Brownback speak at our February 7th, “We’re Talkin’ Tuesday” event at Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center. The Northeast Johnson County Chamber was one of the few chambers of commerce selected by Governor Brownback to speak about his new pro-growth tax plan. He will speak at 8:30 a.m. and then open up the floor for attendees to ask questions about the new tax plan. This is an important event for all of our members to attend, his new pro-growth plan has an emphasis on small business, which is one of the main drivers of the Kansas economy and 70 percent of NEJC Chamber member businesses.

At our February 23rd Lunch & Learn, Representative Kevin Yoder will be our guest speaker. Yoder represents Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District, which includes Johnson County, Wyandotte County and part of Douglas County. By attending these events you will become more knowledgeable about what will be occurring on both the state and federal level in 2012.

If you want to see a difference in the legislation, be part of making that difference occur. It is necessary for chambers of commerce to take an active role informing their members and elected officials about the issues and concerns affecting small businesses. The NEJC Chamber offers our members events such as these so they meet officials and representatives, but it also provides a platform to propose professional input that will assist your business when legislation is being considered.
