In 2004 major reconstruction and expansion projects totaling nearly $200 million were approved for Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam Pointe Center, the Roeland Park Fountains, Entercom, and SBC.
Developers have given the 'thumps up' to move forward with the Merriam Village retail center at Johnson Drive & I-35 to be open Fall 2006.

Shawnee Mission Medical Center
With an eight year, $84 million expansion, SMMC will improve access and add sixty-two new beds, expanded emergency room services, new medical office buildings, and a parking garage at 75th Street and I35. Major landscaping and exterior improvements will include a parking garage. Construction is to begin 2005. |

Merriam Pointe Center

Bella Roe Plaza

Roe/Johnson Drive
With the redesign and construction of a new at grade intersection, 4 ½ acres on the west of Roe Avenue and 2 ½ acres on the east have been created for redevelopment in Roeland Park. Based on community input several scenarios have been presented by Gould Evans, all of which include new residential development in combination with green space and/or small commercial areas. Mission Rock Creek Redevelopment
The redevelopment study area contains 70 parcels of which 49 are within the flood plain. The study area is approximately 21 acres with total land value of $5,433,990 as appraised by the Johnson County Appraiser.
The redevelopment study team is committed to helping the Mission community resolve storm water issues by reducing flood potential; redevelop an aesthetically pleasing, economically successful, and ecologically sustainable city core; establish a pedestrian friendly environment encouraging healthy lifestyles; promote a mixed range of housing opportunities that support a sustainable lifestyle community; define the City of Mission as a destination enriched with activities and culturally artistic elements; and recognize and market the locally-owned character of the city.
