Entertainment
Northeast Johnson County is part of the thriving Kansas City metropolis. We are home to the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. Both teams play at the Truman Sports Complex, one of the finest sports facilities in the United States.
In the spring of 2001, Kansas Speedway joined the ranks of area attractions with a brand new racetrack located in Kansas City, Kansas, just minutes from Northeast Johnson County.
In addition to the Chiefs and the Royals, Kansas City’s other professional sports teams include the Kansas City Wizards (outdoor soccer), the Kansas City Knights (basketball) and the Kansas City Blades (hockey). The Wizards and the Blades use Kemper Arena for their home games, and that facility is also the site of the annual American Royal Livestock, Horse Show and Rodeo. Famous Kansas City barbecue and an annual parade are part of the American Royal traditions.
We also offer riverboat casinos and family amusement parks like Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. The newly renovated Kansas City Zoo attracts residents and visitors from around the country each year.
Perhaps our proudest area attraction is the Shawnee Indian Mission located right in the heart of Northeast Johnson County. Thousands of visitors come here each year to catch a glimpse of frontier history while vacationing in the Midwest.
